Librarians' Internet Index - Websites You Can Trust

Advertising FAQ

Q. Why are there ads on the website? What happened?
A. The Librarians' Internet Index started out as a grant-funded project. We are experimenting with new sources of funding to make the service self-sustaining and to ensure that we can continue operations into the future.

Q. I’m a librarian and I link to LII from the library website. Is there a way to get a site without ads?
A. Yes. We are offering ad-free subscriptions to libraries that support the Librarians' Internet Index. The annual cost of a subscription is $400 for Califa member libraries, $500 for other libraries in California (where LII is headquartered) and $1000 for libraries outside of California.

Q. I’m a library outside of California. Why do I have to pay more?
A. LII receives grant funding from the California State Library. As long as this grant funding lasts, it acts as a subsidy for libraries in California. We would be happy to work with other State Libraries or Library Consortia to develop consortial subscriptions for other groups. Parties interested in this option should contact lcrowe at califa.org.

Q. Now that there are ads on the site, will this affect the editorial standards at all?
A. No. The team that edits and indexes the internet sites will not see the ads, nor will they be influenced by them at all. LII is still an independent site dedicated to leading you to Websites that you can trust.

Q. How do I subscribe?
A. It’s easy! Fill out the pdf form.

Q. I’m a personal user, and not affiliated with a library. Do you have a subscription available to me?
A. No. Right now subscriptions are only available to libraries. You may want to call or email your local library. They could subscribe and then you could access the ad-free site through their subscription.

Q. I’m a library vendor. Can I advertise on the site?
A. No. LII places ads from Google AdSense and does not deal directly with vendors.
