The Spanish-American War in Motion Pictures
The Spanish-American War was the first war in which the movie camera played a role. This site contains sixty-eight films produced between 1898 and 1901 showing "troops, ships, notable figures, and parades, as well as reenactments of battles and other war-time events" of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Revolution. Each film is available in RealMedia, MPEG, and QuickTime formats. The World of 1898: The Spanish-American War provides a historical background and essays on the war from the perspectives of Cuba, Spain, and Puerto Rico. The site is searchable and browsable.
