Connecting to this eclectic array of amusements, dating from the 17th century up to the present, is a fascinating and suitably modern way to observe the links between new technologies and the entertainments of centuries ago. Relic-like names such as "thaumatrope," "physionotrace," and "wunderkammer" add an otherworldliness to these automata, games, and visual diversions.
