Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea
This Connecticut museum (founded in 1929) allows visitors to "climb aboard historic tall ships, stroll through a re-created 19th-century coastal village or watch a working preservation shipyard in action." Its website features background about the ships and buildings and images of selected items from the museum's vast collection of art and objects, photos, and ship plans. The library section includes oral histories, dozens on online manuscripts (such as ship registers and guides), and more.
