A history of the events of July 17, 1944, when a major explosion rocked the naval base at the mouth of the Sacramento River at Port Chicago, California (now the Concord Naval Weapons Station). The working conditions, explosion, mutiny, court martial, and pardon of black servicemen involved are reviewed. There is also an exploration of the entrenched racism at this base.
