Regulatory Fish Encyclopedia (RFE)
The RFE was developed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to help "officials and purchasers of seafood identify species substitution and economic deception in the marketplace." The site lists fish and other seafood by market, common, regional, scientific, and family names. Images of whole fish and market cuts are provided. Taxonomic (physical characteristics) and other scientific information is available for some species and market and consumer hazard notes are given where applicable.Searchable.
