Geographic Information Systems
Geographic information systems (GIS) are computer systems "capable of assembling, storing, manipulating, and displaying geographically referenced information." This site describes GIS technology, functions, and uses, such as calculating emergency response times during a natural disaster, or finding wetlands that need protection from pollution.
