New Geologic Maps Highlight Bay Area Earthquake Hazards
"The U.S. Geological Survey and the California Geological Survey announce [in February 2006] two new digital geologic maps of the densely populated section of the San Francisco Bay area. ... The first is a new map of the young geologic deposits in the low-lying sections of the Bay Area. ... The second of the maps shows the likelihood that these young deposits will liquefy [during an earthquake.]" Maps are available as PDF documents.
