Mountaintop Removal Mining
Collection of material on environmental concerns with mountaintop removal mining, described here as the practice where "mining companies blow the tops off mountains to reach a thin seam of coal and then, to minimize waste disposal costs, dump millions of tons of waste rock into the valleys below, causing permanent damage to the ecosystem and landscape." Much of the focus is on water quality in the Appalachian region of the U.S. From the Sierra Club.
