This site allows birders to record their observations in order to assist ornithologists "define bird ranges, populations, migration pathways, and habitat needs." The data from the National Audubon Society's Christmas Bird Count is available for the past 100 years. There are also articles about other counts and various species and color photos and sounds for many birds.

"More than 60 years after the last confirmed sighting of the species in the United States, a research team announced [in April 2005] that at least one male ivory-bill still survives" in Arkansas. The site features information about the sightings of this bird (thought to be extinct), identification tips with images, photo galleries, quotes from the searchers, historic encounters (including a quote from John James Audubon), and more. This is an "on-line checklist project where you can enter and store your bird observations in a central database, track your personal records, and share your observations with other birders and scientists." The central database is used by those "who want to know more about the distributions and movement patterns of birds across [North America]." Requires free (but fairly detailed) registration to use "My eBird." From Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society.

The GBBC "is an annual [mid-February] four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent." Site features material about participation, blog, and photo galleries back to 2005. View results back to 1999 using maps, U.S. state and Canadian province tallies, or top ten lists.
