Forging a Collection: The Frank W. Tober Collection on Literary Forgery

This online exhibit features information about noted literary hoaxes, such as 18th century figures James Macpherson (Ossian poems) and Thomas Chatterton (Rowley forgeries), the 19th century Fortsas hoax, and Frederic Prokosch and the butterfly books in the 20th century. Includes images. Material is drawn from the collection of Frank W. Tober, a "research scientist ... [who] was also fascinated by the technical processes used to detect forgeries."
