Overview of the phenomenon of acid rain, also known as acidic precipitation or acid deposition, which occurs "when sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere [from pollution] react with oxygen in the air to form sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and nitric acid (HNO)."
