Illustrated presentation about the building of the Panama Canal by French and American interests. Includes background about the Suez Canal built by the French (joining the Mediterranean and Red Seas, finished in 1869), selection of the canal route, workers and tropical diseases (such yellow fever, carried by mosquitoes), and civil and structural engineering issues.
