Large Binocular Telescope Observatory

This site describes the building of "a large optical/infrared telescope that utilizes two 8.4 meter diameter mirrors. ... [I]t will be the world's most advanced optical telescope that will image planets outside of our solar system." Find background, images, and updates about the telescope, which "successfully achieved first binocular light" in March 2008. A collaboration between several universities, with project offices in Tucson, Arizona (near the location of the telescope), and Italy.
