URL: http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/shackleton/

Description:
This combination of photographs by expedition photographer Frank Hurley, maps, diary entries, and brief explanatory text captures one of the great stories of exploration. In 1916, Sir Ernest Shackleton and five sailors made a remarkable boat and land journey to reach a whaling station and organize the rescue of the rest of his crew, stranded when their ship, "Endurance," was crushed in pack ice near Antarctica.
