Outsider art In the Realms of the Unreal Companion website to a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) P.O.V. program on outsider artist Henry Darger. Features an audio tour about Darger's collage and painting techniques, images of the artist's work, excerpts from his 15,000-page novel, a brief biography, and annotated links to resources on self-taught and outsider art. http://www.pbs.org/pov/intherealms/ Topics: Art by Region, Artists, Printing, Publishing, and Book Arts Last updated Sep 9, 2009 Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) MOBA "is the world's only museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition, and celebration of bad art in all its forms." The site exhibits some of MOBA's portraits, landscapes, and portrayals of "unseen forces"; the collection is composed of works with "a special quality that sets them apart in one way or another from the merely incompetent." The commentary and staff interviews about these treasures (many from thrift stores and trash heaps) cleverly spoof gallery-speak. http://www.museumofbadart.org Topics: Arts and Humanities, Arts and Humanities, Humor, Museums, Museums by Place: United States, Nonfiction by Genre, Philosophy, Sports, Recreation, & Entertainment Last updated Nov 23, 2004 Off the Map This presentation looks at the "backyard paradises" created by visionary artists (outsider or self-taught artists "who didn't necessarily go to school to be artists"). Includes profiles of the artists (from the U.S., France, India, and South Africa), images and videos of the art (such as Bottle Village, the Owl House and Camel Yard, and Watts Towers), a create-your-own backyard paradise feature, and related material.
