A goal of this organization is to "research and evaluate the efficiency, accountability, and governance of nonprofit organizations." The AIP's Charity Rating Guide , which evaluates about 400 American charities and groups them into categories, is designed to help you maximize the effectiveness of your charitable contributions. This site lists 150 of the top-rated charities from the Guide . In addition, there is an informative discussion on how to compare charities and give wisely.

Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton have established the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund which "will serve as an umbrella organization for the three special funds established by Governors of Alabama [Bob Riley], Louisiana [Kathleen Babineaux Blanco] and Mississippi [Haley Barbour] and will focus on collecting donations to assist in the long-term recovery plan for the states affected by this terrible tragedy." Provides information for making tax-deductible donations.
