Solvents Greener Choices: Dry-Cleaning Alternatives This report discusses the environmental effects of dry cleaning. Reviews three alternatives to standard solvent, perchloroethylene-based dry cleaning methods: GreenEarth, a silicone-based solvent used in modified dry-cleaning machines; liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) used in high-pressure cleaning machines; and 'wet cleaning' with plain water in computer-controlled washing machines. Also includes federal and state legislation regarding dry-cleaning.
