Companion to an exhibit at the National Gallery of Art that presents "works by Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828), the most successful portraitist of early America." He is best known for his portraits of George Washington and other famous Americans. The site features a brief biography, a timeline, images of dozens of his paintings, and an illustrated essay about his development as an artist. Also includes a brochure for children.
