"The Silk Road is the ancient trade route passing from the shores of the Mediterranean through Bukhara and Samarkand to Dunhuang and on to Xian in central China." The site is a companion to an exhibit of manuscripts, paintings, artifacts, and textiles about the "real people" along the route. It presents illustrated essays on the development of the book, languages and scripts, Buddhas and bodhisattvas, games, and the sky. From the British Library.
