Reading promotion

Tying in with the television program of the same name, this site offers interactive stories and games for children learning to read and write. Information for parents about the importance of reading to their children, using the local library, and ways to connect art and writing is also included. The American Library Association, the American Association of School Librarians, and the Association for Library Service to Children are founding partners of Between the Lions .

This "is a nationwide campaign to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read. May is Get Caught Reading month, but the campaign is promoted throughout the year." The site provides information about this literacy program, which features posters with celebrity supporters (such as NBA player Grant Hill and First Lady Laura Bush). Includes a fact sheet on the importance of reading to children. Sponsored by the Association of American Publishers.

"Originally created as a one-day event to celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2, ... [the National Education Association's] Read Across America has grown into a nationwide initiative that promotes reading every day." Includes a FAQ, ideas and resources for events, and information about an NEA Spanish-language literacy program. Also includes lists of recommended books (such as Asian American and African American book lists), and a brief biography of Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel).

"The SIBL Project uses the language of music to inspire people to learn to read and write." The heart of the site is the list of over 250 rock artists, their songs, and the titles of literature that were the influence behind the songs. Artists include the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Axyl Rose, Bono, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Sheryl Crow, and many more. From the nonprofit group Artists for Literacy.
