Blackbeard the Pirate ... and the Presumed Wreck of Queen Anne's Revenge
Illustrated presentation about Blackbeard, "the most notorious pirate in the history of seafaring," and his flagship the Queen Anne's Revenge. Features an overview of the "Golden Age of Piracy" (1689-1718) and details about archaeological activities related to the shipwreck presumed to be the remains of the Queen Anne's Revenge (off the Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina). The Getty: William A. Garnett
Short introduction to the works of this photographer who "simultaneously piloted a plane while photographing out the window-traveling above every state and many parts of the world," was "the first aerial photographer to earn the prestigious Guggenheim Award," and who died in August 2006. Pretexting: Your Personal Information Revealed
Fact sheet for consumers about pretexting, "the practice of getting your personal information under false pretenses," in which a "pretexter" might gain information by claiming he is from a survey firm, and then use that information to call the consumer's financial institution. California Coastal Cleanup Day
This annual event held in mid-September "is the premier volunteer event focused on the marine environment in the country. On this day, 50,000 volunteers turn out to over 700 cleanup sites statewide to conduct what has been hailed by the Guinness Book of World Records as 'the largest garbage collection' (1993)." Resolutions 5 and 6: "Definition of Planet In the Solar System" and "Pluto"
These two resolutions adopted in August 2006 at the General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) concern the definition of what is a planet and whether Pluto is a planet. Provides definitions for planets, dwarf planets, and "Small Solar System Bodies."
