From July 4 through August 4, 2006, hundreds of thousands of ebooks are available for free. ("An eBook, short for electronic book, is any type of book that has been made into an electronic edition and distributed in a digital format.") Similar free book fairs are scheduled for 2007, 2008, and 2009. Access to materials requires a small fee during other times of the year. Sponsored by Project Gutenberg and the World eBook Library Consortia.
