Noted folklorist and anthropologist Alan Lomax died July 19, 2002. With his father John A. Lomax, Alan developed the Archive of American Folksong at the Library of Congress. The site includes Lomax’s biography; bibliographies, filmographies, and discographies; information on the Alan Lomax archives; tools for researching performance styles; and contact information. For the most part, the site describes what is available, but offers no online catalogs.

Searchable site documenting a recording expedition by Archive of American Folk Song curator John Lomax and his wife. Nearly 700 of the songs they recorded are available in MP3 format, browsable by subject, title, and performer, representing "ballads, blues, children's songs, cowboy songs, fiddle tunes, field hollers, lullabies, play-party songs, religious dramas, spirituals, and work songs." Deposited in the United States Copyright Office between 1925 and 1944. ... The plays reflect Hurston's life experience, travels, and research, especially her study of folklore in the African-American South."
