Established in 1991, this 15-year clinical study focuses on the effects of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), diet, and calcium and vitamin D supplements on heart disease, breast and colorectal cancer, and osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. This Web site provides an overview on the program, plus updates and mid-study observations. It includes discussions of the decisions to stop early the estrogen-plus-progestin and estrogen-alone postmenopausal hormone therapy trials.

This site for "one of the largest preventive studies of its kind in the United States" contains information and preliminary research results, including "risks and benefits," for a study of the impact of taking estrogen plus progestin (also known as Hormone Replacement Therapy, or HRT) in post-menopausal women who have not had hysterectomies. Also includes preliminary information about the impact of estrogen-only HRT on women who have already had hysterectomies. Has a FAQ and links to related resources.
