Full text of the May 2004 report from U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona on smoking and health, which reveals "for the first time that smoking causes diseases in nearly every organ of the body. ... [It] finds that cigarette smoking is conclusively linked to diseases such as leukemia, cataracts, pneumonia and cancers of the cervix, kidney, pancreas and stomach." "MDS, or myelodysplastic syndromes, is a collection of disorders in which the bone marrow does not produce enough blood cells. ... MDS is not considered a cancer. However, some forms of MDS can progress to acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a type of cancer." The site for this "international organization devoted to the prevention, treatment, and study of the myelodysplastic syndromes" features a FAQ, information for patients, lists of international trials, and links to related sites.
