Founded in 1897, the Forward is the most distinguished Yiddish publication in the United States. Originally a daily newspaper, it is now published weekly in both Yiddish and English. Its mission is preserving Yiddish literature. Writers such as Isaac Bashevis Singer, Elie Wiesel, and Abraham Cahan began their careers writing for the Forward . The Web site features news related to the American and international Jewish community and links to publications from all over the world that cover Jewish news. Readers may view the current issue of the paper and the archives in English or Yiddish.

The National Yiddish Book Center offers readers an opportunity to study new and classic works. Each month's book selection is accompanied by various features such as a summary, an interview with the author, selected passages, a critical review essay, and discussion questions. Past months' selections are archived, among them Isaac Bashevis Singer's "Shosha," Michael Chabon's "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay," and Sholem Aleichem's "Tevye the Dairyman."

This small exhibit of cartoons from Yiddish newspapers provides a look at Jewish life at the turn of the 20th century. The five images, which are accompanied by full annotations, demonstrate how biblical imagery was used to comment on social and economic issues of the day.
