The site lists escapes between 1862 and 1962 (most were recaptured) with related news articles, and a diagram of the prison marking escape points. Indianapolis: Still at Sea This is the official site of survivors of the 1945 sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis , one of the worst disasters in naval history. When torpedoed by a Japanese submarine, over 900 sailors were left adrift in the sea for five days, and only 317 survived.
