(artificial linguistic Internet computer entity), a Web-based chat bot. A.L.I.C.E. has twice passed the rigorous Turing Test, winning bronze Loebner Prizes in 2000 and 2001. Those who answer are paid a nominal fee, and the designers incorporate the answers into their programs. Includes a FAQ and list of HITs. (The name for the service is based on an 18th century hoax in which a "mechanical chess-playing automaton" beat almost all opponents.)
