The Public Resource Center includes news, support groups, and a section for children; "Find A Dermatologist" has profiles of AAD member dermatologists. The site includes facts and statistics about skin health and safety in the sun, a guide for parents, and information on subjects such as sun exposure, ultraviolet rays, UV index, sunburn, tanning, sunglasses, sunscreen, and sun protection factor (SPF). http://www.cdc.gov/ChooseYourCover/ Topics: Cancer, Diseases & Conditions, Science Last updated Aug 15, 2004 Melanoma Patients' Information Page “The Melanoma Patients' Information Page (MPIP) is a noncommercial site founded to provide support and information to melanoma patients and those who care for them." This site does a great job of selecting and organizing recent and authoritative information on melanoma. Health and medical articles, clinical trials information, prevention guidance, and various forums to allow patients to interact with other patients are provided. Features an introduction to the dangers of UV (ultraviolet) rays from the sun, tips for avoiding harm from UV rays (such as protective clothing and sunscreen), teaching materials for young children, a glossary, and links to related sites. The alliance was founded by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and Coppertone Suncare Products. http://www.sunsafetyalliance.org Topics: Cancer, Outdoor Recreation Last updated Jun 29, 2006 Sunbeds, Tanning and UV Exposure This March 2005 fact sheet discusses the health consequences of using artificial tanning sunbeds such as skin cancer, skin aging, eye damage, sunburn reactions, and childhood ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure. The document advocates government regulation of commercial sunbeds, and lists groups for whom indoor tanning is not recommended (such as children and people with a large number of moles).
