Website for a project to digitize and transcribe the Codex Sinaiticus, "a manuscript of the Christian Bible written in the middle of the fourth century, [containing] the earliest complete copy of the Christian New Testament" and the Old Testament "that was adopted by early Greek-speaking Christians." The complete text is scheduled to be available in 2009. From a consortium of libraries.

All 1,282 pages of the Gottingen Gutenberg Bible have been scanned and beautifully presented by the Gottingen State and University Library, along with the Göttingen Model Book (instructions to illuminators on book ornamentation), and "Helmasperger's Notary Instrument" (the document that provides the strongest proof that Gutenberg was the inventor of printing with movable type). Feature-packed and intelligently designed, this site is worthy of the great work of art it offers to the world. Includes background on Gutenberg, the history of printing, and the impact of Gutenberg's invention. For full appreciation, Shockwave Flash is required. Available in German and English versions.

Jerusalem's Burial Box Controversy view detail comment email this

This article discusses the controversy in the world of biblical archaeology over the finding of an empty limestone burial box with the Aramaic inscription, "James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus." While noted French paleographer André Lemaire confirmed the box's authenticity, some issues raised are on the provenance of the box, the relative commonality of the three names in the era, and the lack of peer-review. Designed for those studying for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, anyone interested in the Bible will want to see this site. The Pentateuch section includes the text of the Five Books of Moses along with commentaries and each verse sung by a cantor (in Real Audio) . For further study use the Glossary to aid your knowledge of people, places, animals, plants, etc. which occur in the Bible. And for much greater in-depth study use the Atlas (not yet complete) which includes background information on biblical times in nine categories, with great images. There's also a genealogy chart showing the family lines of the main characters in the Bible (requires a java-enabled browser) .
