Information about methods for emergency disinfection of drinking water, including boiling and chemical treatment (using chlorine bleach or household iodine). Site also notes that murky or colored water should be filtered "through clean cloths or allow[ed] it to settle" before disinfecting. In this December 2005 analysis of "more than 22 million tap water quality tests, most of which were required under the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, EWG [Environmental Working Group] found that water suppliers across the U.S. detected 260 contaminants in water served to the public.
