This division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) includes "Foodnet," a database of resources related to foodborne illnesses; the "Safe Water System," a "water quality intervention that employs simple, inexpensive and robust technologies appropriate for the developing world"; and "PulseNet," a consortium which among other things "perform[s] standardized molecular subtyping (or 'fingerprinting') of foodborne disease-causing bacteria."

This guidance document from the World Health Organization includes "significantly expanded guidance on ensuring the microbial safety of drinking-water. ... Information on many chemicals has been revised to account for new scientific information. ... For the first time, reviews of many waterborne pathogens are provided. ...
