Eating improperly processed cassava can lead to cyanide poisoning in the form of a goiter, "a debilitating, irreversible paralytic disorder called Konzo," and even death. The article also discusses how scientists are trying to genetically engineer the plant to eliminate this problem. Includes links to related information.
