Chemicals considered include monoethanolamine (MEA), ammonium quaternary compounds, glycol ethers, alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs), and phthalates. Annotated list of almost one hundred sites where you can find free information on the proper way to handle various materials, including hazardous waste. An MSDA "will include information such as physical data (melting point, boiling point, flash point etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill/leak." Includes an interactive glossary, links to information on subject specific books and software, humor, and more. Most impressive is the MS-Demystifier that can be used to convert material safety data sheets into hyperlinked documents that explain every term.

This 2005 report "provides an ongoing assessment of the U.S. population's exposure to environmental chemicals using biomonitoring. Biomonitoring is the assessment of human exposure to chemicals by measuring the chemicals or their metabolites in human specimens such as blood or urine." Pollution in People: A Study of Toxic Chemicals in Washingtonians view detail comment email this

Results from a study of toxic chemicals found in the hair, blood, and urine of 10 Washington state residents. Chemicals tested for were: plasticizing chemicals (phthalates), flame retardants, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, and mercury), perfluorinated chemicals, and pesticides (including DDT). Also includes profiles of participants, details about the chemicals, and suggestions for safer alternatives. A project of the Toxic-Free Legacy Coalition, a coalition of more than 50 Washington organizations.

This is a geographic information system (GIS) that uses U.S. maps to pinpoint the location of toxic and hazardous materials listed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Superfund Program. It allows users to create local maps showing the location of facilities that release toxic substances (into the air, ground, or water) and identifies both the substances released and the facilities releasing them. This interactive site from the U.S. National Library of medicine explains potential environmental health hazards found in the home to children ages 7-10. Toxie the cat leads them on a tour through the house and helps them find and learn about hazardous substances such as carbon monoxide from furnaces, used motor oil, metal cans sealed with lead, and pesticides sprayed on houseplants. The site has resources for parents and teachers as well.
